Yoga can ease pain especially chronic pain. Studies have demonstrated that practicing yoga can lessen chronic pain, such as lower back pain, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis. A recent study revealed that the practice of yoga can reduce pain catastrophizing, improve pain acceptance and enhance overall emotional functioning among individuals with chronic pain condition. Postures such as asanas and meditation alone or in combination have also been shown to reduce pain for individuals with hypertension, cancer, multiple sclerosis and auto-immune diseases.

Stress Management

Apart from the physical benefits, Yoga reduces the physical effects of stress on the body. According to the report, individuals practicing yoga who were overweight at the commencement of the study lost about 2.26 kilograms while those not practicing yoga gained about 6.3 kilograms during the same period.
