School of Nursing, Sacred Heart Hospital is a private (Missionary) Institution with the mandate of giving qualitative training to young health professionals in Nursing. It is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta, under the Proprietorship of Most Rev’d. Dr. Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo.
Since 1950, when the School of Midwifery commenced, many tutors had served under many principals. Rev. Sr. Consolata was the pioneer principal, followed by Mrs. Oguntoyinbo and Rev. Sr. Joan Amor. In 1998, the School was changed from the School of Midwifery to the School of Nursing and Mr. Oke G. O. became the first Principal of the School of Nursing. At his retirement, Mrs. Oni M. I. succeeded till date, she is assisted by Rev. Sr. Queen Edochie [OLA] (Vice Principal Academics) and Mrs. Adebayo C. O. (Vice Principal Administration). The School is staffed by qualified, experienced and dedicated individuals who are putting in their best to maintain the School’s academic excellence. Many Midwives and Nurses have passed through this great School to which we are grateful to God. Presently, we have a total of about 150 students in the School. Two ways that will help you to become a nurse
You need to choose any school for nurses that has a three-year programme, and at the end of your studying, you’ll be examined by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. After this, you’ll become a registered nurse.
The second way you can choose is a university degree. Apply to any university where you can study nursing and get 5-year education, and upon completing you will also be examined by the West Africa Health Examination Board and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
