Who is an Epidemiologist?
Epidemiologists are public health professionals who study disease outbreaks, patterns, locations, their causes, and how populations and communities are affected commonly called epidemiology. The activities of the epidemiologist are very important in disease control and prevention because they utilize the information obtained from the field to aid in the prevention of future outbreaks and control disease spread. Epidemiologists are also actively engaged in health promotion activities to help the public maintain and improve public health.
Where does an epidemiologist Work?
Academia: Epidemiologists work at Universities Colleges and other higher institutions of learning where they train and equip upcoming epidemiologists and other professionals in public health and related sectors with the needed skills in epidemiology.
Health Department: One of the major areas where an epidemiologist work is in health departments. Government organizations such as the (CDC) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Health Service, National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and Ministries of health.
International Bodies and Non-governmental Organizations: world bodies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UNAIDS, and several other non-governmental organizations are some of the very many places where an epidemiologist work.
