Gluteoplasty also known as buttocks augmentation is a plastic surgery involving a liposculpture procedure and or the placement of implants below or over the muscles of the buttocks in order to enhance its shape, size and appeal.
This trend has been on the rise, especially among women. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, butt implants and lifts are currently the fastest-growing types of plastic surgery in America. The report shows that the number of individuals opting for butt augmentation has risen by 252 percent.
What is however not apparent is the widespread suffering, anguish, and complications occasioned by these pills and procedures especially the butt enhancement injections and supplements that have become widely available on the streets and the internet. In a single year, at least 15 women were killed in Venezuela as a result of complications arising from implants.

Thromboembolism
Surgeries in whatever form come with huge risks and butt augmentation is no exception. Depending on the type of procedure, the augmentation process comes with a huge risk of thromboembolism. Thromboembolism refers to the obstruction of a blood vessel by a blood clot that has become dislodged from another site in the circulation. The blood clots which form break free and travel in the bloodstream with serious health consequences and death if it lands in the brain, heart, or lungs.
Ever present Risk of Infection
As established above, every surgery comes with its own risk, another major risk related to butt surgeries and implants is the risk of infection. The anus has a huge population of microorganisms and the improper management of incision wounds and depressed immunity as a result of an underlying condition may complicate wound healing and promote bacterial infections.
Implant Displacement
Individuals react to implants differently and no matter the precision involved in placing an implant, there is always that tendency to shift position due to motion. When this occurs, the feeling can become unbearable leading to the eventual removal of the implant and a worse off feeling of anger, disappointment, and depression.
Excruciating Pain
After surgery, patients are usually incapacitated for several days sometimes weeks. Butt augmentation places the buttocks under severe stress because of the incision, stitches, and strain placed on the muscles by implants. This makes walking, moving, and sitting particularly painful and discomforting.
Capsular Contracture
The body is highly sensitive to foreign bodies. When a foreign object is introduced into the body, the body in response forms a thin layer of scar tissue around the object. Unfortunately, sometimes, this thin layer forms a tight constricting capsule which over time hardens and transforms the shape of the implant undesirably thus necessitating an eventual removal through another surgical procedure.
Risk of implant Explosion
The tendency of an FDA-approved implant to break is very low. However, with millions of unlicensed clinics performing implant surgeries with substandard and unapproved implants the risk of explosion is quite high. Recently, a 27-year-old lady in Boston went into a coma after her butt implant exploded while doing squats at the gym in the city and will require extensive surgical procedures to repair the damage.
