Counterfeit erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs are fraudulent or fake medications marketed and/or sold to treat erectile dysfunction. Calcium reduction produces muscle relaxation and therefore dilation of the penile arteries with increased blood flow at the level of the corpora cavernosa, and subsequent erection.
The erection ends when the enzyme phosphodiesterase hydrolyzes cGMP. There are several phosphodiesterase isoforms. Type 5 phosphodiesterase plays a predominant role in the penis.
