What Is Chlamydia?

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. It can infect both men and women. Women can get chlamydia in the cervix, rectum, or throat. Men can get chlamydia in the penis (urethra), the rectum, or throat.

You can get chlamydia during sexual activities such as oral, vaginal, or anal sex with an infected partner. A woman can also pass chlamydia to her baby during vaginal childbirth. If you previously had chlamydia and were treated in the past, you can get re-infected again if you have unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected person. Chlamydia is more common in young people, especially young women and men who don’t use condoms consistently and those with multiple partners.

Depending on the culture and context, a kiss is often used to express sentiments of love, passion, romance, sexual attraction, sexual activity, sexual arousal, affection, respect, greeting, friendship, peace, and good luck, among many others. In some circumstances, a kiss is a ritual, formal or symbolic gesture indicating devotion, respect, or sacrament.

Can You Get Chlamydia From Kissing Without Being Sexually Active?

Unlike Trichomoniasis and Syphilis, Chlamydia is very less likely to be transmitted through kissing alone. Chlamydia is a highly contagious bacterial infection that spreads primarily via semen or vaginal fluids during unprotected intercourse such as vaginal, anal, or oral-genital sex with an infected partner. This also explains why you are unlikely to get Chlamydia from kissing someone who has it in their mouth.

Can You Get Chlamydia From A Toilet or Towel?

Individuals become infected with Chlamydia when their genitals come in contact with penile or vaginal discharge during intercourse or other sexual activities. You cannot get chlamydia from a toilet seat even if someone who has Chlamydia has used it before you did. In addition, you cannot also get Chlamydia from drinking after someone, sharing a cigarette, hugging, sharing baths, towels, swimming pools, or sharing cups, plates, and cutlery, because the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis cannot survive outside the human body for a long period of time.
